  • Cataracts:
Cataracts cause reduced vision and are a result of a natural clouding of the crystalline lens due to aging process as well as environmental factors such as ultraviolet light exposure over time.  We evaluate the crystalline lens in all patient examinations.  We work with highly talented surgeons when the time comes for these to be surgically removed.
  • Floaters,  Retinal Tears & Detachments:
These conditions range from common floaters to the potential visually devastating retinal detachments.  New floaters, particlularly when accompanied by light flashes or vision changes always deserve a thorough dilated eye examination as soon as possible.
  • Diabetes and the Eye:
Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness in the USA.  It is important for all diabetics to have yearly dilated eye examinations.  Dilated diabetic examinations allow the doctor to see changes to blood vessels and evaluate the overall integrity of the various structures of the eye.  All diabetics should be seen yearly for dilated examinations.  Please ask your doctor for your HbA1c results.  Your A1c number is a key indicator regarding the stability of your diabetes.  Knowing this number helps us in managing your ocular health.
  • Glaucoma Diagnosis and Treatment:
We routinely test for glaucoma on all patients.  Glaucoma testing may involve measuring the fluid pressure in your eye (air puff or other devices), evaluating your field of vision, measuring the thickness of the cornea, photographing and/ or performing ocular coherence tomography (laser scan) of the optic nerve as well as other tests.  It's important to be tested for this condition as there are often few, if any, symptoms noted by patients until significant vision loss has occurred.  Treatment may be as simple as using eyedrops to reduce the pressure inside the eye.  At times surgery may be required.  If surgical correction is necessary we will refer you to highly qualified surgeons for such care.
  • Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
AMD is a condition found most often in the elderly.  This condition causes reduced central vision.  The most common form is termed "dry macular degeneration." Dry AMD is often treated with supplemental vitamin preparations specifically made for the condition. Wet AMD is often more difficult to manage and frequently requires injected medications into the eye.  It is imperative that all patients with both types of AMD are seen regularly.  Most Wet AMD starts as Dry AMD.  It is important to catch this conversion early in order to best preserve remaining vision.  We work closely with retinal specialists in this regard.
  • Dry Eye
Dry eye syndrome is a largely un-diagnosed yet common condition.  It is often related to aging, hormonal changes, medication use, auto-immune conditions (arthritis, lupus etc) and environmental factors. Symptoms may include burning, stinging or foreign body sensation, light sensitivity, excessive tearing, or gritty, sandy sensation.  If you're experiencing any of these symptoms or find yourself struggling with visual discomfort while reading or using the computer please watch our 5 minute video:
